2021 CensusCensus 2021 is coming

The census is a survey of the whole population of England and Wales it takes place every 10 years and it is next happening on 21st March 2021. It gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.

Census is for everyone. By taking part people help to inform decisions about  services that shape their  community, such as education, health, employment and transport. It’s important  the census informs us about all communities so that public services meet everyone’s needs.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) run the Census, before the 21st March they will send a letter in the post to every household. This will have instructions and a unique access code for every household, so people can fill their  questionnaire in online.  If  people need a paper survey they can ask for one via a freephone helpline.

There will be a range of services to help people fill in their  form, including help in different languages, accessible guidance and a contact centre.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) need the help of community and voluntary groups to enable people in all communities to take part.  You can help us by

  • Raising awareness: your community links can help us spread the word about what the census is and why it matters to everyone.
  • Access: your networks can help us reach people in your community who may need support to take part to make sure they are included.
  • Helping people to complete census or signpost to support.
