Please don't burn rubbish in your garden

Our colleagues at South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue (SYFR) are asking us to warn residents against using garden fires as a way to get rid of excess waste during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

Please don't burn rubbish in your garden

South Yorkshire Fire & RescueOur colleagues at South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue (SYFR) are asking us to warn residents against using garden fires as a way to get rid of excess waste during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

The service has reported a huge spike in the number of call-outs to garden fires.

Not only is there a real risk of garden fires getting out of control and spreading, the smoke they gnerate makes it hard for people in neighbouring properties to use their own garden or exercise and is dangerous for people with respiratory illnesses.

We know that the temporary suspension of garden waste collections has come at a bad time, but it was unavoidable if we were to keep other waste services operating normally during the coronavirus crisis. Please store or compost garden waste in the meantime.

If you've taken the opportunity to have a spring clean, our bulky waste collection service is available - book using this link.

SYFR is encouraging people to pledge not to burn waste in their garden by signing a pledge form on their website (click on the button below).
