Death registration and funeral protocol

The arrangements for registering deaths and attendance at funerals have been amended to comply with social distancing guidelines.

Making changes to these services is difficult. At what we know is already a distressing time for people, we do not take the decisions to place restrictions on the way people mourn lightly - but we have to comply with the latest Public Health England guidance to protect the health of the public and our staff.

We have brought all the new arrangements together into the Death Registration and Funeral Protocol (COVID-19)

The protocol includes instructions on who people should contact in the event of a bereavement, limits on the number of people who can attend funeral services and where they are held and changes to the way people interact with our Registration team when registering a death.

We hope this will help you to communicate with members of the public who make enquiries.
