Congratulations to our young Eco Warriors

It is with great pleasure to inform you that the Eco Warriors from Wickersley Northfield Primary School won the Environmental Agency 'Climate Change Champions 2020'.

Wickersley Northfield were one of only 5 schools shortlisted in the UK and the only primary school, which is a huge achievement in itself. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 students were not able to attend  The Big Bang Fair ,  instead they produced and submitted a video showcasing their fantastic environmental work. Please click on to this link to watch their video and find out about the amazing projects they have achieved.

Earlier this year Wickersley Ward Councillors, Cllr Ellis, Cllr Read and Cllr Hoddinott met the Eco Warriors and were very impressed with the  enthusiasm and commitment this group of children displayed to help the environment for now and the future.  To support the group further Ward Councillors gave the Eco Warriors funding to purchase litter picks and bird feeders.

Cllr Ellis wished to pass on her personal congratulations.

‘The only junior school shortlisted and they won, just brilliant. It is amazing how far this project has developed and the variety of activities and conservation tasks the children have achieved.  The follow through of ideas is very impressive, from installing water butts, to planting seeds that are watered by the rainwater collected, nurturing and harvesting produce, skilfully baking and finally getting to literally eat the fruits of their labour by enjoying a plum crumble. This really shows the practicalities of what they are doing and how fun it can be. How great and humbling it is that these children have been inspired, have views and acted on what we need to do as a country. Northfield Eco Warriors have started to make their world a more eco sustainable one and have demonstrated how we can all make a difference.’

Well done Eco Warriors!
