2018 Summer Activities in the Wickersley Ward

Wickersley Ward Councillors have funded summer activities in their ward

There were lots of activities organised in the Wickersley Ward this summer. Wickersley Ward Councillors, Cllr Ellis, Cllr Hoddinott and Cllr Read have been working with Early Help team, Stepping Stones and Youth Work Works to fund a variety of activities on Flanderwell Park.

Youth Work Works were funded to provide activities on Flanderwell Park every Wednesday evening in August 2018. They engaged with over 59 young people (age range 6 to 18 years of age) and spoke to a number of parents.

The focus of the work was to engage with young people encouraging them to use the park to its full potential whilst looking after the area. Each session began with a fun litter pick followed by games that young people of all ages enjoyed and could continue to play in their own time. The feedback from both young people and parents was positive and the youth workers found a reduction in litter on the park at each session and an increase in young people using the bins.

RMBC Early Help, Stepping Stone team organised Outdoor Active Kids and a Teddy Bears Picnic which attracted families from the area.

All activities were  held on Flanderwell Park, behind the brush and Easel Pub, off Fleming Way.
