What Is Advocacy?
Advocacy means having someone on your side who is independent from the council and there just for you.
An advocate can
- help you speak up if you are unhappy with a decision or service
- support you in meetings or when talking to professionals
- explain your rights and help you understand what is going on
- make sure your views are taken seriously
- help you make a complaint or sort out a problem
- support you to share positive feedback so we know what’s working well and can keep doing it
- advocates are independent and confidential. They will only share information if they are really worried about your safety
You do not have to face things alone. Advocates are trained to support you and will always act in your best interests.
