Support While You’re in Custody
If you are working with the Youth Offending Service (YOS) or Probation, your worker from those services will help you understand what is happening and what you need to do.
Your social worker or Personal Adviser (PA) will offer support with any court appearances. With your agreement, they will also stay in contact with your YOS or Probation worker so that everyone can support you well.
Before you leave custody, we will work with the prison or Youth Offender Institution (YOI) and your other workers to help plan where you will live when you are released.

Staying Connected
Your PA will visit you within 10 working days of you going into custody. After that, they will visit at least every 8 weeks.
With your agreement, they will also keep in touch between visits through:
- video calls
- letters
- phone calls
- extra visits
Your Pathway Plan
Your Pathway Plan will be updated within 20 working days of you going into custody so it reflects what you need right now.
Your plan will be reviewed every 6 months, or sooner if something changes.
Your Rights
You still have the right to support until you turn 25. This includes help with:
- identification (ID)
- money and benefits
- education and training
- emotional health
- staying connected to people who are important to you
Your Pathway Plan will explain the support you will receive from your PA and from other people involved with you, such as your Probation Officer or Prison Offender Manager.
Education and Wellbeing in Custody
We can help you understand what courses, work or training are available while you are in custody. We can also support you to access emotional or wellbeing services if you need them.
