Extra Help if You Are a Parent
Being a parent is a big responsibility. It can sometimes make education, training or work feel harder. You don’t have to do it on your own. There is extra support to help you balance parenting with your goals, both locally and nationally.
National support available
- Care to Learn can pay childcare costs if you’re 16–20 and in education. More about Care to Learn.
- Universal Credit childcare element - Helps cover up to 85% of childcare costs if you are working or training.
- Childcare Grant's are available for higher education students. Find out how to apply for the Childcare Grant or Register or login to the Childcare Grant Payment Service.
- Parent’s Learning Allowance - Provides extra help at university if you are a full-time student with children. Apply for student finance.
Local support
- The Journey - Drop-in sessions with our Youth Employment Coach who can tell you about your entitlements. See The Journey section of the Local Offer for further information.
- Rotherham Family Hubs and Children’s Centres (phone 01709 336080, select Option 2). Ask your PA about local childcare bursaries and creche places. More about Rotherham Family Hubs.
- Local Colleges and Universities - May have childcare bursaries and creche places. Speak to your PA for childcare funding help or ask your college or university about childcare bursaries.
