What you can expect from us

We will make sure you understand your rights and that your voice is heard. We will give you both practical and emotional support while you settle here.

Practical support:

  • Help to register with a GP, dentist and optician.
  • Support to access education and training. You have the right to go to school or college until you are 18. You can also join English classes ESOL at college or community centres.
  • Help to get clothing and other essentials.

Communication and meetings:

  • We will provide interpreters when you need them so you can talk to us and other agencies.
  • We will support you to attend important meetings and understand what is happening.

Faith, culture and community:

  • We will support your faith and cultural needs and tell you about local activities you might like.
  • We will help you become part of the community and meet people.

Keeping in touch with family:

  • If you have family abroad or in the UK, we will help you try to keep in touch once safety checks are completed.

Accommodation:

  • We will find safe accommodation for you. This might be foster care, supported housing, or shared accommodation depending on your age and needs.

Legal support:

  • We will help you find a solicitor to give legal advice and represent you in your asylum claim. Only the Home Office can decide the outcome of your asylum claim. While you wait for a decision, we will support you through any worries or uncertainty.

Emotional and wellbeing support:

  • You can access trauma‑informed counselling and wellbeing support. This includes drop‑in sessions at The Journey and groups run by an advanced social work practicioner and our Migrante Voice Group, which take place on the second Tuesday of every month.

How we will work with other agencies

Many local and national organisations can support you as a separated young person. We will help you get in touch with the right services and make sure they understand your needs.
