Last year, we asked you what you thought to flags appearing on lamp posts, fences, and bridges. Whether you liked it, disliked it or wanted more opportunities to celebrate all of us together. We’ve based the Council’s response on what you told us.
We listened to what you had to say, and we’ve looked at what we can do to support all our communities, including:
- Introducing the small grants scheme for Parish Councils and Community Groups so as flags come down from lamp posts they can be flown respectfully in our communities,
- Supporting local events for St George’s Day to bring everyone together in a community celebration
As we put those events together, to help make them a success we want to hear from you once more about your thoughts on what the England and Union flags mean to you, and what makes us, us.
This could be simple things like:
- Believing in fairness and everyone having the same opportunities
- Rooting for the underdog
- Our quirky traits, such as our love for queues and talking about the weather
Please note: This consultation will close on Tuesday the 10 March, 2026.
