Documents the Registrar can issue

Burial in England - where the coroner is not involved

A burial can go ahead before the death has been registered. After seeing a valid cause of death, the Registrar can issue a certificate of disposal to allow burial.

Burial where coroner involved - referable death or repatriation

The Registrar cannot issue a certificate of disposal until all the documentation is received from the coroner.

If a body needs to be removed from England, the coroner must give written permission. Once permission is received, there is no legal requirement for the death to be registered before the body is removed. However, most airlines will require a death certificate to carry a body.

The Council can only register a death in normal business hours, which are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
