Equip yourself for independent living

Assistive technology

Assistive technology, also known as Technology Enabled Care, is a range of equipment or gadgets that can help you to live independently in your own home.

This equipment can support you and, where appropriate, the people around you in many areas of your everyday life including:

  • Environmental safety – for example, raising alarms for people with sensory needs
  • Environmental control – such as being able to turn on lights or close curtains
  • Communication – making contacting people easier
  • Medication taking –reminders to take medication
  • Orientation – for example, clocks which also show day of the week and time of day
  • Reassurance – falls alarm which alert someone when you have fallen so you are not left for long periods

And many other areas depending on what you need.

Some technology enabled care equipment can be accessed directly through our Customer Contact centre, or you may need a Social Work or Occupational Therapy assessment. It is also important to be aware that some equipment requires you to have our Community Alarm service in place.
