Technology requiring a further Social Care assessment

If further discussion with you is needed, then you may be contacted by our Social Work or Occupational Therapy team to ensure the best technology is recommended to meet your needs.

To get other equipment you will need to have a social care assessment or occupational therapy assessment. Once you have made an enquiry, we will need to ask you a few questions to ensure the best technology is recommended to meet your needs.

There is a variety of technology, but it may include:

  • Bed occupancy sensor - this is used for people who get up during the night time and are at risk of falls. If they do not return to bed within an agreed time, then an alert is raised with the Community alarm team. An additional controller is available which will switch on a bedside lamp when you get out of bed
  • Chair occupancy sensor – this is useful for people at risk of falls. If the person does not return to the chair within an agreed time period, then an alert is raised with the Community alarm team.
  • Epilepsy sensors – allows an alert to be raised within the home when a seizure is detected.
  • Door exit sensors – allows an alert to be raised to nominated people if the door is opened outside of the hours normally expected for that individual
  • Pressure mat – allows an alert to be raised if someone gets up from a chair or bed and are likely to need assistance.
  • GPS tracker units – allows nominated people to be alerted if the individual needs support and gives a real time location when needed

Some equipment may link to pagers which allow people within your home to respond rather than the Community Alarm. Options will be discussed with you during your assessment.
