Work has begun on the final phase of the Swinton Regeneration Programme, bringing a range of public-realm improvements designed to make the area more welcoming, attractive and accessible for everyone. The works are scheduled to be completed in Summer 2026.
The scheme will include:
New paving
A new pedestrian link connecting the precinct directly to the high street
A dedicated under-five's play space
Further improvements to enhance safety, accessibility and the overall look and feel of the town centre
The Library, Civic Hall, Honeypot Café, all shops and local businesses remain fully open and accessible throughout the works.
To ensure the works can be carried out safely, there will be some temporary changes to usual access routes:
There will be no general through-route via the precinct during construction
Businesses and the Civic Hall are still accessible from both the car park and Station Street
Access from the front of the library will be temporarily unavailable
The drop-off area at the turning circle will not be in use while improvements are underway
These upgrades mark the final step in the transformation of Swinton Precinct, following recent enhancements to the Civic Hall and the opening of a modern, new library.
An engagement session will be held shortly to provide residents and businesses with an opportunity to view the final designs and find out more about the improvements before they are completed.
