Why are we consulting?

The Council, like every other local authority, has been hit with budget cuts, which in the next two years will see Rotherham Council having to find £42m of savings. Whilst the mandate for savings has instigated a review of policies and practices, the Council wants to work with families and its partners to ensure that the money being spent reflects value, gives more choice and promotes independence on a financially sustainable basis.

The Council wants to work with families to ensure that those who need the most support continue to receive it whilst others are helped to use options that perhaps are not currently available.

This could mean continuing with current arrangements or moving towards another form of support, which would be done working together with schools, colleges and families.

We therefore want to begin a conversation with families, as well as schools, colleges and other groups who have an interest in home to school transport for children and young people, about different options to support children and young people getting to and from school.
