Thousands of young people across Rotherham are celebrating their GCSE results today, Thursday 20 August
With the borough continuing to perform strongly and recording improved outcomes across the core subjects of English and Maths.
This year, 73.1% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English, exceeding the national average of 71.4%, while 58.5% achieved grade 5 or above, compared with 55% nationally.
Results also improved in Maths, with the gap to national performance narrowing, and more students achieving strong outcomes across both core subjects. Overall in English and Maths combined, 63.2% of students achieved a grade 4 or above, an increase of 3.2% compared to 2025.
A total of 3,369 students received their results, reflecting continued progress for young people across the borough and the collective efforts of students, teachers, school staff, parents and carers.
Councillor Victoria Cusworth, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Rotherham Council, said:
"I want to congratulate every young person receiving their GCSE results today. Many students across Rotherham have achieved excellent results, and they should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished through their hard work, determination and resilience.
"These achievements are a testament not only to our young people, but also to the dedication of teachers, school staff, parents, carers and families who have supported them throughout their education.
"Whether students are progressing to sixth form, college, apprenticeships, training or employment, they have a strong foundation to build upon. I wish them every success as they take the next step in their journey and work towards their ambitions.
"For those who may not have achieved exactly what they hoped for, there are still many opportunities available, and support is on hand to help them find the right pathway for their future."

At grade 5 and above, 58.5% achieved the higher pass, an increase of 3.2% from last year. Rotherham outperformed the national average, where 71.4% achieved grade 4 (pass) or higher and 55% achieved grade 5 and above.
GCSE Maths
Maths results also improved in Rotherham, with 68.7% of students achieving a grade 4 (pass) or higher, up 2.4% on 2025. At grade 5 and above, 48.7% achieved the higher pass, an increase of 2.9% from last year. While Rotherham remains below the national average, the gap has narrowed, with 71.8% nationally achieving grade 4 or above.
