Waltz on down to Rotherham’s outdoor market where you can celebrate Yorkshire Day with lots of tea and dancing, on Monday 31 July.

Free Yorkshire tea, cucumber sandwiches and lots of delicious buns will be on offer and join traders who will be selling ice cream, popcorn and candy floss, in addition to their usual fresh produce and goods.

Rotherham’s Mayor Cllr Eve Rose Keenan will help to celebrate the family event, which will be held in the outdoor covered events area, off Drummond Street.

The Meadowhall tea dance band, Cloud 9, will be making an appearance with their live music. The tea dance has been running for over 20 years, bringing people together to socialise and enjoy ballroom dancing. Come and dance along to authentic vintage music from the 1920s to the 1950s.

Other dance performances by groups and individuals will also be participating including Rotherham’s RU3A dance team.

No booking is needed is for the free event – which will run from 10.30am to 1pm.

Pay and display parking is available immediately opposite the market at Drummond Street Car Park (next to the new Tesco). Also, there is two hours free car parking in the ‘red zone’ in Forge Island on weekdays.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy, Cllr Denise Lelliott, said: “This event will be Rotherham’s celebration of Yorkshire Day, which is officially taking place on the day after, 1 August. It promises to be a morning and afternoon packed with fun and entertainment and some Yorkshire treats added in too.”

“We welcome everyone to come and visit Rotherham Markets for a fantastic tea and dance, which will get everyone joining in and dancing along to the vintage music.”
