Rotherham is set to receive £222,000 as part of the Government’s new £10 million Good Food Neighbourhoods programme.
Responding to the announcement, Cllr Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council, said: "For too many families, accessing healthy and affordable food isn't always straightforward. The cost-of-living crisis has only made that worse. This is welcome news that the government is stepping in to help us to do more locally.
"Over the last few years, we've backed our great local volunteers across the borough to ensure surplus food reaches those who need it, that affordable locally sourced produce from Food Works is available in more places, and that we join up services to make it easier for people to get the help and advice they need, including to get back into work.
"So it's great to see the government stepping in to support this work and that of councils across the country, so we can reach more people, helping them to eat better, live healthier, learn new skills and have more control over their own lives."
