Council triumphs with ‘Excellence in Tenant Engagement’ awardPublished Wednesday, 21st March 2018
Council tenants in Rotherham can celebrate after the Council scooped the best engagement award in regional finals.
Rotherham Council has been recognised for its work with their tenants to get them more involved in things that matter to them most and to make a difference to services they receive.
The Housing and Neighbourhood services won the ‘Excellence in Tenant Engagement Award’ at the Tpas North Region Finals held in Manchester.
Tpas is England’s leading tenant engagement expert and the awards showcase inspirational success stories of tenants, landlords and contractors working together to drive up standards in social housing.
This news demonstrates that the overall approach taken by the Council to engage tenants is embedded within the organisation and serves to influence policy, strategy, services and organisational direction.
Councillor Dominic Beck Cabinet Member for Housing at Rotherham Council said: “What a fantastic achievement! Well done to all who made this happen including our staff, Rother Fed (Tenants Federation) and tenants.
We are now officially the best ‘Tenant Engagement’ landlord in the north. We are committed as a Council to ensuring residents live good quality lives and this means having a decent home to live in.”
Rotherham Council’s Assistant Director for Housing and Neighbourhoods, Tom Bell, added: “This is great news. It shows how committed we are to making sure tenants’ views are at the heart of everything we do and that we are dedicated to widening opportunities for our tenants to have a real say on policies and services.
The Council will use this award to continue to raise service standards to our tenants, in particular to increase opportunities for digital inclusion as well as improve engagement with our under-represented groups, such as younger tenants, to make a positive difference to the services we provide."
Rotherham Council’s Tenant Involvement Co-ordinator, Asim Munir, who successfully led on the bid to secure this award, said: “It was a fantastic and memorable day and some of our active tenants were in attendance with us at the awards ceremony to share this special achievement with us.”
The Council will now be entered into the national Tpas awards ceremony which takes place on 12 July in Warwickshire.
