The UK's first Tram Train will welcome its first passengers on board on Thursday 25 October, with partners Stagecoach Supertram, Network Rail and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE).

Passengers in South Yorkshire will be the first in the country to benefit from the innovative Tram Trains - a special tram vehicle designed to run on both Sheffield's tramlines and the rail network between Sheffield city centre and Rotherham.

Three Tram Trains an hour will travel on the Supertram network from Sheffield Cathedral to Meadowhall South, Rotherham town centre railway station, and Parkgate Shopping Park.

To celebrate the launch of the Tram Train, a number of Rotherham town centre businesses have special offers available to passengers:

  • Grimm & Co, 2 Doncaster Gate - Make your journey to Grimm & Co by the new Tram Train and show your ticket to the elves to receive a choice of a free curse or a lucky/unlucky dip (while stocks last, valid 25th to 31st October). Please note that the effectiveness of the curse depends on your magic level, which can be tested in our apothecary. Magical beings travelling by broomstick or flying carpet will still find parking available on the roof, but may wish to trial this human form of transportation as an alternative in case of twig snappage or unravelling.
  • Andrews Butchers, 70 Effingham Street - 10% off on production of a valid Tram Train ticket (excludes Christmas orders)
  • Jaded Heart, 20 Moorgate Street - 10% off until 30th November on production of a valid tram train ticket (one per person per ticket)
  • The Rhinoceros (Wetherspoons), 35-37 Bridgegate - Pizza deal - Any pizza from the menu with a selected alcoholic drink or soft drink for £5.99 on production of a tram ticket (valid 25th to 31st October)
