Rotherham Council’s new Adult Social Care Skills Academy has been set up to support adult social care employers to find recruit and train people in the borough who want to start a career caring for adults at home or in residential care homes.
The Academy will support employers to find the right people at the right time to meet their business needs as well as equipping new recruits with the education, knowledge and skills they need to excel in their new workplace.
Training is available which includes an online Care Certificate and classroom-based learning on topics such as Roles and Responsibilities; Health and Safety; Safeguarding; Moving and Handling of People; Providing Personal Care, Infection Prevention and Control and PPE; Emergency First Aid; and Medication Awareness.
Twenty-four vacancies are currently being advertised through the Skills Academy for employers in Rotherham, including role such as support workers, home care workers and care assistants. This number is expected to increase as adult social care providers assess their staffing needs.
The roles are open to anyone interested in a career in adult social care, even if they have no experience in the field as long as candidates are hardworking, well organised, have great communication skills and want to make a difference to the lives of others.
Rotherham Council’s Assistant Director for Adult Social Care, Ian Spicer, said: “It is important that we support social care employers to find new staff with the right values to the sector. Care workers work tirelessly looking after our most vulnerable adults. Adult social care is a highly rewarding job where you can make a real difference to a person’s life. Whether you’re working in community care or in a care home, there are so many roles and opportunities for people to pursue.”
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Care and Public Health, Cllr David Roche, said: “Care workers are often the unsung heroes of the community; however this pandemic has highlighted to everyone how vital they are to help people live independently at home as well as providing care to people who live in residential homes.
“By Offering a tailored support package to social care employers to find suitable candidates, the Skills Academy hopes to encourage growth in the adult social care sector so they can continue to provide vital support to thousands of adults across the borough.”
