Shop Local is on the buses!Published Wednesday, 22nd October 2014
Rotherham town centre's popular shopping reward scheme is set to hit the road, thanks to an innovative partnership with First South Yorkshire.
The award-winning Shop Local scheme has so far encouraged over 15,000 cardholders to enjoy the benefits of discounts, offers and free gifts in over 100 Rotherham stores and is now joining forces with First Buses.
When presenting their Shop Local card to the driver on any First Rotherham bus, travellers can get a First Day family/group day ticket for £7.80 instead of £8.50, which will allow unlimited travel for up to two adults and three children. Just look out for the Shop Local window sticker on all 100 participating Rotherham buses.
Bernadette Rushton, Retail Investment Manager, said: "The Shop Local card has been a huge success here in Rotherham.
"This new and unique partnership will help the scheme to grow in strength and hopefully encourage more shoppers to visit the town centre for less."
Paul Flanagan, Rotherham Business Manager from First South Yorkshire added: "We’re always very keen to support the town centre and Rotherham in general.
"This is a fantastic initiative that will hopefully help people get around a little easier and encourage others who haven’t used public transport for a while that our buses are easier, and cheaper, to use now more than ever.
"We look forward to working more in partnership with the Town Centre team and enjoying the journey with them!"
This partnership launch follows the announcement that First in Rotherham has been short-listed for the Top National Bus Depot at the UK Bus Awards partly as result of the work to engage more with the local community.
In July this year, First in Rotherham also joined the Rotherham Bus Partnership working together with other operators and the Combined Authority to grow customers even further.
You can sign up for your Shop Local card for free at the Rotherham Town Centre website at or just call in to Rotherham Visitor Centre on Bridgegate and pick one up!
