What’s on this December

What's on this December

It’s nearly December and there are lots of fun events taking place across Rotherham.

This month, the festive season is underway with the visit of the magical Beauty and the Beast pantomime which will take place from 1 December to Sunday 8 January 2023 at the Rotherham Civic Theatre. A beloved tale as old as time that will be sure to make you laugh, cry and fall in love with a host of hilarious and hairy characters. Join us for the enchanting journey of the free-spirited Beauty, who is taken prisoner by a Beast. Will Beauty be able to look beyond his beastly exterior and find the true Prince within? All will be revealed.

Don't miss this spectacular production which is packed with big song and dance numbers, side-splitting comedy, lots of audience participation and, of course, a huge sprinkling of pantomime magic.

All warm spaces will offer a friendly welcome and comfortable environment to meet friends or socialise. Some warm spaces may be able to provide hot drink and have activities or programmes that you can join in with. There may be a small charge for some activities.

We have more information about the Warm Welcome initiative in Rotherham's public Warm Welcome Spaces here - which includes Rotherham Libraries Warm Welcome activities and also has details of the Warm Welcome events at Clifton Park Museum.

Winter Mini Challenge 2022

The 2022 Winter Mini Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency in partnership with Science Museum Group, is on! The Summer Reading Challenge 2022 saw thousands of children reading and exploring science and innovation as part of this year’s Gadgeteers theme.

Now that it’s getting chilly and the winter holidays are approaching, we’re back with even more fun experiments and reading encouragement.

Children can join the Gadgeteers as they use their ingenuity and creativity to keep everyone entertained during a snowstorm. Get ready for cool do-it-at-home experiments and learn along the way as you read for pleasure with the Winter Mini Challenge!

The Winter Mini Challenge encourages children to keep up their reading habits over the winter holidays, with a free-to-access website featuring rewards for reading and reviewing books.

Taking part in the Winter Mini Challenge is simple. Children read at least three books of their choice between 1 December 2022 and 20 February 2023 and add them to their online profile at www.wintermini.org.uk (available on 1 December).

Reaching their online reading goal will unlock a limited-edition virtual badge and a special Winter Mini Challenge certificate to print off and keep.

There’s lots of other great stuff on the website too, including games, book reviews, reading activities and content from the best children’s authors and illustrators around. For parents, there is a Home Zone and Library Zone on the website with more information and top tips.

There is also a Facebook page so that parents can keep up to date with news and opportunities. Look out for special competitions for book bundles and much more!
