Rotherham Council is inviting residents to come along to a series of drop-in sessions to have their say on plans for a new library and neighbourhood hub in Thurcroft.

The Library, which is currently located on the grounds of Thurcroft Junior Academy, will be relocated to a new building adjoining the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall later this year.

The development is part of the Council’s Libraries Capital Improvement Programme, which has already funded improvements to all of its libraries across the borough. A financial contribution to the works has also been made by Thurcroft Parish Council.

The works, which are planned to commence in June this year, will develop a brand new neighbourhood hub, creating a community focused space for families and community groups to come together in a safe, modern environment.

The relocation to a more accessible site within Thurcroft will also provide more opportunities for people to benefit from the Library and its services.

Plans for the new building include mobile shelving to allow for flexible meeting spaces, activities and events space.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion, Councillor David Sheppard said: “Libraries are an integral hub in our communities. It’s so important they evolve to meet the needs of the residents so it’s great to see the site at Thurcroft being developed into what promises to be a wonderful new facility.”

Local residents and interested parties are invited to view plans of the new library, give feedback and ask questions at drop-in events to be held in the current library building. Anyone wishing to have their say can do on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 4 April, 1:30 pm to 5pm at Thurcroft Library
  • Thursday 13 April, 10am to 12.30pm at Thurcroft Library
  • Tuesday 18 April, 1:30 pm to 5pm at Thurcroft Library

For people who are unable to make any of the sessions, the plans will also be displayed at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall providing the opportunity to complete feedback form.
