Rotherham Council is to support Carers Week by providing all carers with a chance to access information, advice, and a health check during the week (5 to 11 June 2023).

Carers Week gives carers the chance to share their stories with peers and professionals and publicly acknowledges the valuable contribution that unpaid carers make to our community.

Cllr Ben Aveyard said: “As chair of the Borough that Cares Strategic Group, my role is to ensure that carers in Rotherham are recognised and supported for the huge contribution they make to society.

“This year has been difficult for most of us. The impact that the of the cost-of-living crisis and the knock-on effect of NHS pressures on carers’ lives is significant, so it’s important that people have the support they need to care safely.”

Ian Spicer, Strategic Director for Adult Care, Housing and Public Health at Rotherham Council said: “The Council and our voluntary sector colleagues have been working hard to finalise the programme for this year’s Carers Week, which will support the health and wellbeing of local carers in Rotherham. The activities planned reflect the positive partnership working that is currently taking place across both the statutory and voluntary sector organisations to support all our carers, young and old.”

Nicola Curley, Strategic Director for Children and Young People’s Services added: “Young carers are a vital part of our caring community. We want everybody to know how important unpaid carers are to their families and friends and to the whole community. We hope carers find the time to drop into one of the events or visit our website to see the range of work that’s taking place to support carers in Rotherham.”

As part of the week’s events, the Council will also be launching The Borough that Cares Newsletter. This will look at the issues affecting carers and provide useful information. Copies will be available on the Council website and at the carer events listed below.
