Students from schools and colleges across Rotherham have performed well in A Level results published today, according to early analysis.
Around 2,500 young people across nine sixth form schools and colleges in the borough have received their A Level results today. Over 3,900 students received their A Level and equivalent results today.
Whilst all results are still subject to appeal, Rotherham’s pass rate (A* to E) stands at 96.4% for A Levels only.
Nationally, the number of students achieving the A Level pass rate (A* to E) has not yet been released but indicators suggest that the results are set to drop for the second year running, bringing grades in line with 2019 levels.
In Rotherham, the figures for A Level students receiving A* to C grades is 68.8%.
The number of students achieving A* to A grades in Rotherham is 17%.
Councillor Victoria Cusworth, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Rotherham Council, said:
It is very positive to see that a number of young people across Rotherham have achieved strong A Level results in Rotherham and it is great to see so many young people with a lot to celebrate their hard work and fantastic achievements.
“Following the challenges of the global pandemic, this group of young people have had a very different educational journey to get to today and this should be recognised against the achievements we see. No matter what their individual results, every young person, teacher, parent and carer should feel extremely proud of what they have achieved today.
“I wish all pupils well in the next stage in their lives and careers, whether this is to go into the world of work or onto higher education and a thank you to all across our schools for the support for our young people.”
At Thomas Rotherham College (TRC), A level and BTEC results brought whoops and high fives, hugs and happy tears, before the emotional phone calls to frazzled parents back home.
TRC students and staff celebrated remarkable results that will allow more than 550 students from across the region to progress to University, into apprenticeships or off onto their chosen career path.
College Principal, Joel Wirth, added:
This is always such a special day. For students and their teachers, this is the culmination of two years of hard work and application, and being able to share in the happiness of so many young people as they take the next step towards their planned futures is what keeps us all doing this work.
“I’d like to pay testament to our students at TRC and across the region. For this year group, the covid years stripped them of much of their learning and wider experiences at the top end of secondary school. For them to have climbed back with such dedication, so that they find themselves in a position to achieve grades this life-changing is particularly heart-warming.
“We hope they apply themselves to whatever comes next – an apprenticeship, a university degree, whatever it is – with the resilience and tenacity that have brought them the successes that we’ve seen today.”
The students at Wales High School are today celebrating some fantastic achievements in their A Level and vocational qualifications. It was great news for many as they begin their apprenticeships, employment and higher education courses.

After what has been such a challenging time to study and sit exams it is great to see so many of our students accepting offers at their chosen University and moving on to apprenticeships in those areas that they have a passion and flair in.
“As always, it has been a privilege to see students being rewarded for their hard work and determination and we are excited to hear of their travels and further successes in the future.”
