New bungalows for Council rent in Thorpe Hesley

A local building company has helped Rotherham Council in its pledge to create hundreds of new Council homes across the borough.

Two new bungalows have been built for Council rent by Cadam Construction as part of its Eldertree Court development in Thorpe Hesley.

These new build homes support the Council’s commitment to build hundreds of new homes - with the Council recently marking the key milestone of 500 Council homes built or acquired since 2018.

Caroline Webb spoke of her delight after recently moving into one of the new bungalows with her husband: “I can’t tell you how happy we are with our new home, it’s absolutely beautiful.

“The quality of the build and the fixtures and fittings are extremely high, you’d have thought we’d have paid a small fortune for it. We feel incredibly lucky and we’re really looking forward to making it our home.”

The new Thorpe Hesley development is built on a former pig farm, with the area that now forms the site entrance previously the home to underutilised Council-owned garages.

The site has delivered 24 new homes in total, with the two bungalows purchased by the Council under its Affordable Housing Policy, which requires affordable housing to be provided on housing developments over a certain size.

The new Council-owned bungalows are for people aged over 60, with the first tenants given the keys to their new homes earlier this year.

Rotherham Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Sarah Allen said: “We are grateful to Cadam Construction for the two the bungalows which are now available for Council rent.

“Rotherham Council works to provide support for all those in our community and we are glad we can offer affordable housing to those who need it most.

“We are proud that we have been able to offer a range of properties and I’m delighted to see two new bungalows for the over 60s have been built and giving older residents more opportunities to rent.”

Cain Green, Group Development Director at Cadam Construction, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Rotherham Council and we look forward to continuing this relationship.

“Our team dedicates themselves to delivering the highest quality work and we are proud that these bungalows can assist the Council in its goal of providing affordable housing for residents across the borough.”

The Council remains committed to working with local small and medium-sized developers to deliver much needed high-quality and affordable homes.
