Most classes follow a standard prize structure. Any differences are shown in the relevant section.

Fruit and vegetables

Please read the schedule and stage accordingly and in the correct class to avoid a ‘not as schedule’ card and disappointment, if you require help on the day, guidance can be sought from the Made in Rotherham team in the marquee.

Miniature Garden (Class 35) – Prizes

To occupy a space of 3.5 ft x 2.5 ft with unlimited height, marked by a framed structure 6 inches high. Entries are welcomed from all community and education settings. The garden theme must be named.

Gardens must be constructed on site on Friday 5 September 2025 between 12 noon and 10pm. No digging into the ground is permitted. Soil will be available on site, but all associated costs must be met by exhibitors.

Judging will be carried out by the Clifton Park Horticulture Team.

Judges note: For classes 55 to 58, in addition to taste, judges will also consider presentation and appearance of entries. All entries must be clearly labelled, for example “Strawberry jam” or “Gluten-free flapjack”.

Bake Rotherham Technical Challenge (Class 54)

54	Bake Rotherham – Technical Challenge: shortbread biscuit	£5	£2	£1

Using the following ingredients and method, make shortbread biscuits to be displayed on your own board.

Ingredients

110g caster sugar, plus extra for dusting
110g cornflour
225g softened unsalted butter
225g plain flour
Pinch of salt

Method

Lightly butter two trays, or line with baking parchment.
Put the butter and sugar into a large bowl and cream together using an electric whisk or wooden spoon until light and fluffy. Sift in the flour and cornflour, add the salt and mix until combined. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead into a soft dough.
Roll out between two sheets of baking parchment to 1cm thick. Prick all over with a fork and cut into shapes. Re-roll scraps once if needed. Place on trays and chill for at least 30 minutes.
Heat the oven to 170°C.
Bake for about 20 minutes until lightly golden at the edges. Leave to firm slightly, then transfer to a wire rack, dust with sugar and allow to cool.

Winthrop Gardens

“Winthrop Gardens is a one-acre Community Gardens at the end of Second Lane, off Morthen Road in Wickersley, S66 1EE. In the ownership of Wickersley Parish Council since 2016, it includes the Gardens, Tea Rooms and ‘Curiosity Corner’. Designed for peace and tranquillity, Winthrop is inclusive and accessible to all. The Winthrop ethos is very much about extending the warmest of welcomes to those who need that extra little bit of friendship and support.

Summer Opening times: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10.30am to 4pm.

Entry note: For blankets (Class 61), entries must be submitted by 28 August 2026 and include dimensions for display purposes. Late entries may not be accepted.
