A630 Parkway Widening Scheme
Rotherham Council has ambitious plans to improve the A630 Parkway between the Catcliffe Junction and the M1 J33 to improve journey times and reduce congestion.
Under the plans, a new third lane will be added in both directions between the Catcliffe junction and the M1, as well as changes to the A630/M1 roundabout. A reduced speed limit of 50mph will also be introduced to improve air quality.
The aim is to reduce congestion and improve journey times between the Catcliffe Interchange, the Advanced Manufacturing Park and Junction 33 of the M1 and will support housing and employment growth around the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District and Waverley New Community.
The scheme, funded by Central Government from the Local Growth Fund, will unlock development capacity in the region and reduce driver delays on the surrounding road network to provide benefits for the local community.
The scheme has been designed to ensure it is contained within the footprint of the existing highway, reducing the need for bridge modifications and retaining the distance from existing properties. Landscaping will be reinstated sympathetically, including new tree planting and hedgerows where appropriate.
In accordance with the current programme, the Full Business Case will be submitted to Governance in Autumn 2019 with an anticipated start on site in early 2020. It is proposed that the scheme will take approximately 18 months to complete and be operational by Summer 2021.
