Over 1,200 two-year-olds in Rotherham are benefiting from a free childcare place! Could your child also have a free place?
There are still over 300 children in Rotherham who are eligible for up to 15 hours of FREE quality childcare and early learning each week - if they meet the necessary criteria. These sessions give them the opportunity to learn through play and experience new activities while preparing themselves for school.
In turn, the provision also gives parents a bit more free time each week allowing them to take up alternative activities such as college courses or the chance of returning to work.
Currently, a total of 1,274 children in Rotherham are taking advantage of the offer as part of the Government's 'Achieving Two Year Olds' programme. This is 78 per cent of those who are eligible and means that Rotherham has the third-highest rate out of 15 local authorities across Yorkshire and the Humber. Nationally, the average take-up is 62 per cent, placing Rotherham 28th out of 152 authorities.
Rotherham's success was acknowledged earlier this month by the Government at a formal reception organised by the Department for Education but Rotherham's Families Information Service would still like to hear from the parents of those 300 plus children not receiving a place so they can check to see whether they are eligible for the free childcare.

There are over 160 childcare providers who offer free early education places in Rotherham (including day nurseries, pre-schools and childminders) and the Families Information Service can support parents to find a provider in their area.
Eligible children can access up to 15 hours of free early education per week although if parents prefer, they can choose to take up fewer hours initially and build up over time.
