Cleaning up the Brook

The Environment Agency, The River Stewardship Company, Rotherham Council, Whiston Parish Council and Yorkshire Water delivered a community volunteer Brook clean-up day on Tuesday 23 August.

A group of over 30 people took part in the clean-up day. This included community volunteers, Ward Councillors, members of Whiston Parish Council, Alexander Stafford MP and members of the local community.

The group spent the day tidying and cutting back vegetation, creating new wildlife habitat and improving the existing habitat for wildlife by pulling up invasive species and litter picking around the Brook.

The work that took place on the day will help support the flow of water and reduce the risk of flooding, encourage wildlife, and reduce the spread of invasive species such as Himalayan Balsam.

Working with you to help build communities that we can all take pride in is a priority for the Council.
