New buses unveiled by First South YorkshirePublished Tuesday, 19th January 2016
A total of 22 new vehicles have been unveiled in Rotherham following a £5m investment by First South Yorkshire.
The new double-deck, Wrightbus Streetdeck vehicles were launched at Effingham Square by Rotherham Council’s Advisory Cabinet Member for Jobs and the Local Economy Cllr Denise Lelliott.
As well as a stunning new look inside and out, all the buses are fitted with luxury e-leather seat interiors and come fitted with USB charging points.
The new buses, which are manufactured by Wrightbus in Northern Ireland are all Department for Transport ‘low carbon certified’, making them amongst the most fuel efficient buses on the market. First also revealed that all the new vehicles will be fitted with Euro 6 engines, a strong commitment to improving air quality across the region.
The new vehicles are part of an ongoing investment commitment by First South Yorkshire as part of the ground-breaking Rotherham Bus Partnership. The Partnership is delivering improvements in customer service and value-for-money to help attract more people onto public transport. The new buses will operate on the Sheffield – Rotherham – Doncaster X78 route.
Cllr Lelliott said, "These buses are a real boost for Rotherham. First South Yorkshire’s vehicle investment not only provides greener and more comfortable bus services, it makes travelling by public transport an exciting prospect. I have no doubt residents will welcome these improvements - we hope it will encourage more people to take the bus and to visit Rotherham town centre and see for themselves why we were voted as having Britain’s best town centre High Street!”
Kevin Belfield, Managing Director of First South Yorkshire, said: “Our investment of over £5m in 22 new vehicles is great news for our customers and underlines our continuing determination to provide ever better bus services as part of the Rotherham Bus Partnership work and encourage more people to travel by bus. These new vehicles are among the best and most eco-friendly in South Yorkshire.
“Passengers can enjoy pleasant, more comfortable journeys and keep connected on the move with our new USB charging points, whilst supporting the efforts of our local authority partners to improve air quality for all.”
