This month, councillors from Dalton and Thrybergh held an event to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and play area, on Laudsdale Road in East Herringthorpe.
The event gave local residents and families the chance to enjoy the newly upgraded facilities and participate in a range of sporting activities delivered by the Titans Community Foundation.
The project is the second large investment in the neighbourhood over the past year, following on from the Council's Towns and Villages Fund improvements to the area around Ridgeway stores. Identified through consultation with the community, each project was designed to deliver improvements to community spaces. Funded through a combination of budgets, this project directly supports the delivery of local plans and priorities and demonstrates the commitment by councillors to improve facilities for children and young people.
The project took several months to complete and includes a fully refurbished MUGA, new bins and the addition of new inclusive play equipment. Work was undertaken by local contractor Lightmain, who specialise in the supply of playground equipment, and supported by the Probation Service’s Community Payback scheme, who undertook painting and tidying of the green space.
Councillors Joanna Baker-Rogers and Michael Bennett-Sylvester, Councillors for Dalton and Thrybergh Ward, said:
We are delighted to see the completion of the refurbishment of the play area. We recognise the importance of providing a safe and enjoyable place for children and young people to play and socialise, which we hope the improvements will help to deliver.
On the day, Councillors Joanna Baker-Rogers and Michael Bennett-Sylvester were joined by Councillor Sarah Allen, Deputy Leader of Rotherham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Working, and Councillor David Sheppard, Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion.
The event was a success, with around 20 young people participating in the activities. Residents also had the opportunity to talk to councillors and Council officers from Neighbourhoods, Housing and Early Help teams.
