Computers and the internet

There are computers for you to use in all our libraries with access to the internet and Office 2010. We also have scanning facilities and printing available for a small charge of 20p per black and white A4 print and 65p per colour A4 print.

Staff will be more than happy to help you with any IT query you may have. Please note that we are unable to offer extensive one to one support. If you would like to learn more about computers and the internet, you could sign up for one of our free basic IT learning sessions. Please ask in your library for details.

Wi-Fi hotspots

Wi-Fi is available free of charge at all our library buildings, as well as other locations throughout the borough.

Please note that you must agree to the terms and conditions of our acceptable use policy.

The Wi-Fi service is available during normal library opening times.

Volunteer to help others with IT

If you enjoy IT and would like to help other people in your spare time, you could volunteer at your local library.

You will be helping individuals or small groups of learners to improve their IT skills, ranging from complete beginners to more advanced levels. You may be doing this alone, with a member of staff, or with another volunteer.

You don't need any IT qualifications to help, you just need to have good communication and listening skills, be able to explain computer terms simply and be reliable and willing. You will be able to state a preference for the days and times that you are able to volunteer with us, and we will always try to put you at your local library where possible.

If you are interested in volunteering, please speak to a member of staff.

Stay safe online

Our computers use filtering software to help reduce the risk of you or your child accessing inappropriate content, but please be aware that this is not 100 percent effective. It remains your responsibility to talk to your child about the internet, although we do have advice to help you.

If you do not want your child to have internet access please speak to a member of staff.

Children under the age of nine years will need a responsible adult sat with them to use the internet.

Wi-Fi Printing

You can print directly to one of our library printers from your own device using our Wi-Fi print service. You don't need to install anything and you don't need to be in the library but you do need to be a member of the Library Service.

Not a member? No problem, you can join the library online and start using the service immediately. Click here to join the library service.

Further instructions on how to use the Wi-Fi print service can be found in our guide:

WIFI Print Service Guide – Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

You can pay for and collect your printing from any of our libraries during our normal opening hours, either using our library self-service kiosks or by speaking to a member of staff. You have up to 48 hours to visit the library and collect your printing, after which the files will be permanently deleted.
