Rotherham’s spectacular pantomime is herePublished Tuesday, 29th November 2016
The Christmas celebrations are about to start, which means panto time is here!
Rotherham residents are invited to join in the festive fun and book their seat as the stars of this year’s pantomime are set to take to the stage.
After the town’s Christmas Lights Switch-on event took place on 17 November, preparations are underway for this year’s production, the magical Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Rotherham Civic Theatre.
Tickets are available for the pantomime run from Thursday 1 December until Sunday 8 January.
More than 21,344 tickets have already been sold for this year’s production – 1,115 more tickets than this time last year, with performances around Christmas and New Year already near sell-outs.
And although 83% of tickets for all performances have now been sold, the size and layout of the theatre means that everyone gets a good view and feels part of the experience so, if you haven’t yet bought your ticket, now’s the time to do so.
The pantomime runs until the first week of the New Year (8 January), so it is a perfect way to escape the winter blues!
Starring Pop Idol and West End star Zoe Birkett as The Wicked Queen, Britain’s Got Talent’s Enola Dyer as Snow White, singing sensation Anthony Collesso as the handsome Prince and returning by popular demand, comedy star Rollo as Muddles and Robert Forknall as Dame Dolly, it promises to be another successful year for Rotherham’s pantomime production.
Jo Longworth, Rotherham Civic Theatre Manager is excited to welcome her first pantomime production in the role of Civic Theatre Manager. Jo said: “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a popular fairy tale. It has everything needed for a great pantomime, with amazing scenery and special effects, stunning costumes, and brilliant song and dance routines, a wonderful love story, live music, loads of audience interaction, laughs, hilarious jokes and plenty of booing and hissing for the Wicked Queen.
“A trip to the pantomime is a perfect way for families to make the Christmas and New Year celebrations extra special. With the first-class cast which we’ve got this year, I’m sure it will be a show to remember! We promise to have the fairest pantomime of them all – so get your tickets now!”
Jo Longworth also gave an update about a cast change for the show. She said: “Due to ill health Steve Barclay is sadly unable to appear in this year’s production. We are happy to welcome the accomplished actor Robert Forknall to play the role of Dame Dolly and would like to wish Steve a speedy recovery. I want to reassure everyone that the show will go on and I’m sure it will be the best pantomime ever.”
Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Cultural Services, Cllr Taiba Yasseen said she was looking forward to the return of the annual spectacular production.
She said: “A trip to the pantomime is a highlight for all the family during the festive season. It is wonderful to see the children and parents enjoying themselves and taking part in the audience interaction during the shows.
“There are plenty of good seats available in our auditorium for many shows. Make sure your celebrations are complete with some fantastic entertainment and a live theatre experience at Rotherham’s traditional pantomime.”
Shone Productions are once again returning to produce the show after a successful second year with last year’s show, and the theatre will again host a live band to bring the show to life.
Signed performances are on Tuesday 27 December at 11am and Saturday 7 January at 6.30pm.
A Relaxed performance will also take place at 11am on the 27 December. The Relaxed performance, which will also be signed, will have extra dedicated staff to assist with access and seating, extra lighting during the performance, a more relaxed attitude to noise and freedom to leave the auditorium at any point.
Tickets for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are on sale now.
