March 2025
4 March - Sustainable travel a win-win for local schools
Brinsworth Academy, Dinnington High School and Oakwood High Schools have participated in Modeshift's Active Travel Ambassador's Campaign Junction. Pupils presented their ideas to increase active, sustainable and safe travel at their school to a panel of industry experts. All schools won £200 to £250 to fund their campaign.
10th March - Triple crossing switch-on
Crossing Herringthorpe Valley Road is easier and safer thanks to the installation of three signal-controlled toucan crossings, at Shenstone Road, Browning Road and Mowbray Street. Switched on in February and March, the crossings are three of multiple schemes demonstrating Rotherham Council’s commitment to affordable travel on foot, by bike and on public transport.
14th March - Safer Shoppers
In response to public requests, the Council has installed a signal-controlled puffin crossing on Cortonwood, the approach to the busy retail park. Right next to the bus stop, it makes shopping visits safer and more enjoyable.
25th March - Teachers get pupils cycling
Teachers in Rotherham are teaching their pupils to learn to cycle, after Rotherham Council was chosen to take part in Bikeability Trust’s Get Cycling in Schools. The programme helps teachers gain the skills needed to give pupils confidence on balance bikes and pedal cycles, in an off-road setting. Schools involved receive practical and online training and printed materials to help them complete sessions with pupils. They also receive helmets and a fleet of balance bikes.
