How you can support breastfeeding customers
Customers with babies and young children may need to breastfeed when they are on your business premises. There are many different reasons why babies and toddlers need to feed and it is important that their parents respond quickly to their needs.
You can help parents by following the Breastfeeding Pledge.
- Provide a welcoming and comfortable environment in which to breastfeed where people can feed wherever they choose.
- Never asking someone to stop breastfeeding, cover up or move their seat.
- Make every effort to provide a private space for a person to breastfeed if requested. This will not be a toilet.
- Prominently displaying the Breastfeeding Friendly sign and window sticker.
- Ensure all your staff are aware of the pledge and know how to support breastfeeding.
- Deal with complaints about people breastfeeding by explaining your involvement in the Breastfeeding Friendly scheme and your legal obligations.
Parents who feel comfortable in a place and have a positive experience are more likely to come back to your business in the future. Little things can inspire loyalty to businesses and customers will remember somewhere where they felt welcome.
