Trauma support

Kinship

Support with understanding trauma may be accessed through Rotherham Council’s Empower service and their training and one-to-one support.

Some kinship children have experienced traumatic events before they moved to live with their kinship carers, and living outside the care of a parent can be a traumatic event in itself.

Kinship has a guide to understanding trauma and how this might affect children’s emotions, behaviour and relationships with others.

Visit the Kinship website

Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund

Kinship children and their carers may be eligible for therapy funded through the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund, if their kinship child was Looked After before and is now the subject of a Child Arrangements Order or Special Guardianship Order. An assessment is completed by our Empower Service to inform any application.

View the criteria for the fund on the Department for Education's website

Tony Hudgell Foundation
