Commissioners were appointed by the Government in February 2015 to take over the leadership of the Council after a number of reports highlighted serious failings across Rotherham MBC’s culture and services.
On Tuesday, 18th September 2018 the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government announced his decision to restore decision-making powers for the remaining functions to Rotherham MBC from Monday, 24th September 2018 and to withdraw Commissioners on Sunday, 23rd September.
