Frederick Street and High Street - Extension of hours in which cycling is permitted

Map of Rotherham

Rotherham Council is asking for feedback on proposals for a new scheme to improve provision for cyclists using the town centre.

As part of work to deliver a new cycle route and improved public realm, the Council is proposing to permit cycling on Frederick Street and High Street at all times. As part of the same town centre scheme, cyclists will be allowed two-way access on Effingham Square.

We are not proposing any changes to other pedestrianised streets in Rotherham town centre at this time.

This scheme is to be delivered by Rotherham Council with money secured from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund by Sheffield City Region. The work is due to take place in Spring 2022.

We want to ensure the delivery of the scheme meets the needs of local people and so we are seeking feedback on the proposed design as shown in the map above. (We will not be able to consider proposals for fundamentally different routes or approaches as part of this consultation.)

To provide feedback on these proposals please complete our online survey by 13 February 2022.
