We want to make sure our services work for everyone in Rotherham. Here’s what we’re already doing to support equality, diversity and inclusion – and how you can help shape our future plans.

Priority 1: Understanding, listening to and working with communities
- Listening to residents and service users through consultations and feedback
- Improving how we engage with all communities, including people with protected characteristics
- Making sure information is shared in accessible and appropriate formats
- Working with partners to use data and insight to reduce inequalities and promote good community relations
Priority 2: Delivering accessible and responsive services
- Keeping residents informed about council services and how to access them
- Using feedback and complaints to improve how we design and deliver services
- Strengthening digital access and supporting digital skills
- Working with partners to tackle inequality and disadvantage
- Using Equality Assessments early in service design to identify and remove barriers
Priority 3: Leading by example and promoting equality
- Working with partners to improve community safety and take a zero-tolerance approach to hate crime and discrimination
- Promoting equality and good community relations through joint working
- Raising awareness and understanding of protected characteristics
- Celebrating diversity and marking key events
Priority 4: Building a diverse and engaged workforce
- Aiming to be an Employer of Choice to attract and retain talent
- Adopting flexible and inclusive ways of working post-Covid
- Supporting staff networks and inclusive engagement
- Developing training that puts equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of our work
- Expanding our health and wellbeing offer based on staff feedback and best practice
