We offer a personalised furnishing service for new Council tenants, offering choice and flexibility at an affordable price to help make a house a home.

If you are eligible to join the scheme and it is deemed affordable you will sign an agreement for the furniture to be provided when you sign your tenancy agreement.

Choice of furniture

If you have signed for a Council home in the last four weeks, you can choose items within four furniture bands. The choice depends on the size of the property allocated to you.

The furnished items you can choose from are:

  • Electric cooker, microwave, washing machine, condenser dryer, fridge freezer
  • Two seater sofa, coffee table, tables and chairs
  • Chests of drawers, wardrobe, bed side cabinets
  • Single and double bed (divan or metal frames)

We have a carpets only package available or you can upgrade to have carpets on any of the above packages at an additional weekly charge.

If your financial circumstances change you can downgrade or upgrade your furniture package between then bands depending on the size of your property. The furniture charge will be adjusted accordingly.

Cost of furniture

A weekly furnished charge is added to your rent account. The charge will be confirmed with you and entered onto your tenancy agreement at the point of Sign Up.

The furnished charge depends on the furniture band you have chosen. Prices are competitive and start from £8.75 per week.

The furnished charge is a service charge, which covers you for the duration of your tenancy. The charge includes all repairs, maintenance and replacements for carpets and items.

If you are in receipt of Housing Benefit or Universal Credit, some or all the furnished charge may be covered.

Goods for sale

If you aren't eligible for the scheme, we often have recycled items that you can buy from us at a depreciated rate. These items have been professionally cleaned, visually assessed and PAT tested where necessary.
