About the roles
Here is some information about the roles before you apply
Working Hours and Shifts
Our homes operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide consistent, high-level care to our children.
Your role will involve:
- Morning and evening shifts
- Weekend and bank holiday work (including Christmas and New Year)
- Sleep-in shifts (paid in addition to your salary)
The Council promotes a healthy work-life balance. This means that you will have two weekends off per 4 week rota.
- Full-time: 37 hours per week averaged over a 4-week rota
- Part-time: 18.5 hours/week averaged over a 4-week rota
Sleep in shifts are shared fairly across the team with an average of three per rota.
Our Homes
We currently operate several homes across Rotherham, with more opening soon.
You will be working with children and young people aged 8 to 17 years. Homes accommodate between 1 to 4 young people, depending on the setting.

Pay and Pension Benefits
We offer competitive pay for our roles. Staff usually start at the base of the pay scale, but we may offer a higher starting point based on:

- Qualifications
You will also be paid in addition to your salary for sleep-in shifts.
The Council offers access to a contributory pension scheme with the Council paying in around double the amount you pay towards your pension benefits payable on retirement.
Training and Qualification
All residential staff must complete a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) within 2 years of starting, in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.

Continued learning and development is at the centre of the Residential Service. We provide regular opportunities for training and development through our dedicated Rotherham Learning Academy. We want to ensure all our staff are fully equipped to deliver their role to the fullest, so our children get the best support possible.
Additional Requirements
You will need a full UK driving licence (manual or automatic) so that you can run errands as part of your duties.
