Key Achievements

Tackle Social Isolation and Loneliness

Refurbishment and Redecoration of Staple Green Neighbourhood Centre - funding was provided for new blinds throughout the Centre and for materials for redecoration. Restorative Justice carried out the decoration works. Housing Services funded new curtains. Covid-19 has caused the Neighbourhood Centre to be closed but once reopened the Centre will be a much improved facility for residents to use.

Funding has also be provided for:

  • Ravenfield Bowling Club to enable, mainly older, residents to can take part in bowling preventing social isolation and loneliness
  • Installation and lighting of Christmas Tree at St. Thomas’ Church Yard, Kilnhurst in partnership with Swinton Ward Councillors
Community Safety

Community safety is the main priority for Silverwood Ward. Funding has been used to install Billy and Belinda Bollards at Sandhill Primary, Ravenfield Primary and St. Gerard’s Schools.

Defibrillators have been provided to Kilnhurst and Sandhill Primary Schools and staff have received training on how to use them.

A speed activated sign has been installed on Vale Road and speed reduction measures are in place on Braithwell Road, Moor Lane North, Moor Lane South and Hollings Lane.

Funding has been provided to upgrade a footpath and install solar powered lighting to make the footpath between Ravenfield and Woodlaithes safer for residents to use. School children use the footpath on their way to and from school.

Explore opportunities to Improve Health and Wellbeing of Local Residents

Kilnhurst Colliery Cricket Club received funding from Silverwood and Swinton Wards to provide Kilnhurst Colliery Cricket Club with funding for new Polo Shirts with the Club's logo on. They also supported them with funding for travel costs to enable them to compete in the Billy Oats Cup.

Ravenfield Parish Hall – Book Swap Honesty Library - encourages more users, of all age groups, to the Parish Hall enabling them to meet new people, participate in the activities taking place within the Hall, join new groups or simply visit and make use of the new facilities.

Environmental Improvements

Funding support has been given to Ravenfield Horticultural Society and Old Ravenfield Village Garden Society to carry out planting to throughout the village to create attractive flower displays.

Thrybergh Country Park received funding for replacement dog bins. The old ones were very well used to the extent that they were overflowing. The new bins are much larger to try to alleviate this problem.

Facilities and Activities for Children and Young People

Silverwood and Swinton Ward Councillors jointly funded holiday sports activities during the summer and October half term holidays. The sessions were very well attended with over 50 young people taking part.

Kilnhurst School suffered extensive damage during the 2019 floods. Funding has been provide to develop an Outdoor Reading/Quiet Area for the children to have a quiet area within school to read, paint and draw.
