The Council’s Bereavement Service is working in conjunction with Rotherham Libraries to host ‘Death Cafés’ in the borough.
What is a death café?
The Rotherham Death Café offers a welcoming and informal space where people can come together to talk openly about life, death, and everything in between. There is no set agenda, no guest speakers, and no pressure—just a safe, respectful environment to share thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences around the topic of death.
Whether you're dealing with loss, curious about end-of-life matters, or simply want to explore what death means to you, the Death Café provides a supportive setting to connect with others and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.
On selected dates, professionals from services such as funeral directors, hospices, hospitals, and the registration service will be available to offer guidance, answer questions, and help dispel common myths, making conversations about death more open and less taboo.
The Death Café is not a counselling or bereavement support group. However, our team can signpost you to appropriate support services if needed.
The Rotherham Death Café is hosted and facilitated by a dedicated local volunteer who is passionate about creating a compassionate space for meaningful conversations.
Where and when is the death café held?
These are held at Riverside House Library and Neighbourhood Hub, Main Street, Rotherham, S60 1AE.
These take place on the third Saturday of every month at 12pm to 2pm.
