The electoral register is a list of everyone in the area who is able to vote in local, national and European elections.

The Register is held separate from the Council, which means that you would still need to tell us where you live or if your details change, even if you have told other Council departments.

We are required by law to publish a full and edited register of electors.

The full register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote. The council holds a copy and anyone can look at it, but it is a criminal offence to supply or use copies for purposes other than those set down by law.

The open register is an extract of the electoral register. It is available for general sale and can be used for any purpose. It can be bought by any person, company or organisation and can be used for commercial activities such as marketing.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the electoral register is currently unavailable for inspection.

If you wish to view or purchase a copy of the open register please contact Electoral Services.

Updating the Register

Each autumn, we send out forms to each household to check the information we hold and gather details of any changes. The updated register must be published by 1 December each year.

You must respond to make sure you are still registered to vote, even if you have no changes to report.
