Let Christmas in and light up the town with the Christmas light switch-on!
The Christmas Lights’ Switch-on returns to Rotherham on Saturday 15 November, offering free family fun from 3pm to 6pm throughout the town centre.
This annual event offers an exciting line up of entertainment and activities to welcome the festive season to the borough, bringing cheer and sparkle with a programme of live music, circus performances, street theatre, gift market, creative workshops and more! The live main stage in All Saints’ Square will offer performances from talented young Rotherham based musicians, choirs and performance groups, alongside brilliant headliners Mr Wilson’s Second Liners, where New Orleans meets 90s club classics. Yorkshire Circus will be joining us for the first time where visitors can have-a-go with light-up circus equipment, enjoy circus performances, fire displays, unicycle, acrobat and juggler walkabouts!
Head into Rotherham Minster where all the family can get crafty with festive themed workshops, creating your own bauble, lanterns, willow weaving and more! Live music will be performed alongside by some of Rotherham’s best young talent. Outside in Minster Yard you can get dancing in the Children’s Capital of Culture silent disco underneath the tree’s in the quiet zone.
Along Effingham Street you will find a Gift Market with stalls offering a host of treats and there will be a selection of town centre businesses staying open late for the celebrations. Make sure to look around for Snow White and the Pantomime cast as they will be making an appearance. As 6pm draws near the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Rukhsana Ismail, will count down, along with the crowds, to the much-anticipated lights’ switch-on.
