The Childminder EYFS Evaluation (Part A and B) have been amended to reflect this new virtual way of working. They rely heavily on you as Childminders carrying out self-evaluation of your own practice and having discussions with your Childcare Officer.
The Childminder EYFS Evaluation (Part A) will be used to assess the RAG rating of your setting with your Childcare Officer via email, telephone or video call to reflect our new way of working. The EYFS Evaluation (Part B) is a self-evaluation tool for you to use to look at the impact of teaching and learning within your setting, looking in greater depth at the three I’s (intent, implementation and impact).
In Part A there are some boxes that are not highlighted and some that are highlighted yellow and blue. Below is an explanation as to what these refer to:
- Any box that is not highlighted will be self-assessed by you. You can tick to show if this practice is fully in place, partly in place or not in place. You will need to add your own notes into the notes space to demonstrate how you are meeting each of the points.
- If the box is coloured yellow please feel free to add in your own self evaluative notes, however we will discuss these points together over the telephone, via video call or email before agreeing that the statement is fully in place, partly in place or not in place.
- If the box is coloured blue please feel free to add your own self evaluative notes, however we will be requesting additional documentation/items from you to evidence that this statement isfully in place. This could include the sharing of photographs of activities or opportunities you have provided for children (no pictures of children), copies of your observations (making these anonymous) or policies etc. We will provide feedback related to the items that we have requested from you and then together we will discuss what the best outcome should be before marking this as fully in place, partly in place; or; not in place.
Our aim is for the Childminder EYFS Evaluation (Part A & B) to be completed in 3 steps and we propose that:
Step 1 - The Childminder emails the self-evaluated Part A and B along with supporting documents to the Childcare Officer.
Step 2 - Part A is then returned to the Childminder with feedback from the Childcare Officer.
Step 3 - A meeting between the Childminder and the Childcare Officer via video or telephone call takes place to discuss the comments returned to you and to explore aspects of the Part A evaluation that need further discussion to fully determine the outcome. Although Part B is for you to use as a self-evaluation tool, discussion with your Childcare Officer around the quality of education you are providing will also take place during the meeting.
By the end of Step 3 we anticipate that the process will be complete, and a red, amber or green outcome agreed.
Here is a list of items that we would like you to forward via email on Step 1. These include the following policies:
- Safeguarding policies including Child Protection, Safer Recruitment, Prevent, Allegations against a member of staff, E-safety and Mobile Phones and Cameras. These may all be within one large policy or you may choose to have them in shorter separate policies.
- Illness and Infectious Disease policy
- Administrating Medicines policy
- Accident and Injury policy
- Behaviour Management policy
- Complaints procedure
- Uncollected Child and Missing Child procedure
- SEND policy
- Arrivals and Departures or Drop Off and Collection policy
- Ongoing assessment documents and copy of two-year assessment
- Induction evidence (for students, volunteers or new members of staff)
- Medication and other substance policy
- GDPR policy / Privacy Statement
- No Smoking policy
- Staff policy / Staff Handbook (if you work with an assistant or co-childminder, volunteers or students)
- A range of examples of planning. This may be shared via photographs or emailed/scanned copies of your planning and may include weekly planning.
- An anonymised IEP
- Anonymised observations
- Your practitioner induction checklist (if you work with an assistant or co-childminder, volunteers or students)
- Evidence of full current Paediatric First Aid (PFA) training
- Evidence of last fire drill practices (this may be via a photograph)
You will see further guidance notes coloured red within Part A in relation to the items listed above.
We understand that this new way of working relies heavily on Childminders spending time reflecting on practice and collating and submitting information, but given the increased expectations of the Education Inspection Framework we feel this will be a valuable process for you to take part in and will help you feel prepared and confident for when Ofsted visit.
