EYFS 2 Year Progress Check
The Early Years and Childcare Service have adapted the 2 Year Progress Check ready for the changes to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework 2021. The 2 Year Progress Check is an early assessment of all aspects of child development.
The form integrates both the 2 Year Progress Check in Early Years and captures the prompts for the Health Review (ASQ3).
Changes have been made to the 2 Year Progress Check to capture the voice of young children and their parents/carers. It has been widened to check if a child’s attendance is low due to external factors within the family. If any are identified, then please support a parent to do an Early Help referral to access additional support if needed.
Home learning has been added to the form, this is key especially whilst children may have missed out on the wider learning opportunities due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The form also considers a child’s spoken language and the language they are an expert in.
Through undertaking all these checks as early as possible you will be able to put strategies, targets and support in place and make timely referrals if needed to professionals and create a ‘Team Around the Child’ approach. This support will help young children improve their outcomes through working in a joined-up way. When a child is age 2 it is a crucial time in their developmental journey, early identification, assessment and planning can make a big difference if done in a timely joined up approach with all agencies working together with a young child and their parents/carers.
Through undertaking the statutory 2 Year Progress Check, early identification of developmental delay in children at the age of 2 will ensure effective support can be sought.
The EYFS framework is for all Ofsted registered early years providers in all settings, including:
- Nurseries
- Childminders
- Pre-schools
- Reception classes
We would encourage all providers to use this form but acknowledge that you may already have your own in place.
