Cold Weather: Keeping Warm and Well
Cold homes can increase the risk of illness. To stay warm and safe:
- Heat rooms you use often to at least 18°C
- Reduce draughts with draft excluders
- Keep bedroom windows closed at night
- Wear several thin layers of clothing for warmth
Vaccinations
Get vaccinated to reduce the risk of respiratory illnesses during winter. This is especially important if you have a long-term condition or are more vulnerable to cold weather.
Treating minor winter illnesses
If you feel unwell, speak to your pharmacist, call NHS 111, or contact your GP. In an emergency, dial 999.
